✍️Woodpecker at Night – Based on a True Story
A quiet night scene inspired by a real woodpecker I see every day, perched beside a hole in an old tree beneath the moonlight.

This guy is real. He is my prime suspect. 🐦
A few weeks ago, I started hearing a strange sound from outside. It sounded as if someone—or something—was tapping somewhere above the ceiling. Since our home is in a village, there are all kinds of animals roaming around at night, so at first I didn't think much of it.
But the strange “tap tap” became especially noticeable whenever the power went out around midnight. At first, I honestly found it a little creepy. 😅
Recently, though, during one of my walks, I finally met this guy hiding in a coconut tree. And, for some reason, he was making a hole there too.
Now I strongly suspect him.
I think he is secretly planning to weaken that tree, bring it down on our house, and end this whole story forever. 😂
But here's the interesting part: he also made a hole in an old tree that is easily accessible from my terrace. Whenever I go upstairs, he watches me silently from a distance. He's apparently been working on his little house for days. Sometimes he even seems to be working overtime.
He's definitely up to something.
Of course, woodpeckers aren't nocturnal, so he probably isn't responsible for those midnight tap-tap sounds. But that doesn't mean I'm removing him from the suspect list. The investigation is still open. 👀
Let's see how he plans to establish his own little colony.
Most of the coconut trees around here are already occupied by tons of parrots, but this particular tree is practically vacant—and slowly dying—so he may have found himself the perfect location.
All he needs now is to find a mate.
And then, I suppose, the two of them will work together to take down my house. 😂🏠
For now, I'll be watching this guy very carefully.
Update: Today, I found out that there are some baby woodpeckers inside the hole. I couldn't see them, but they clearly make noise whenever I go near it. So, they have already established their little colony! 🐦🐣
